Cervical Cancer Awareness Session at Ek Tara

Ek Tara, in collaboration with The Bengal Obstetric & Gynaecological Society (BOGS) and Inner Wheel Club (IWC) Calcutta Midtown, organized a Cervical Cancer Awareness Session for parents of our students. The session was facilitated by four doctors from BOGS and five members of IWC, and it turned out to be an enriching and impactful experience.

The primary objective of the programme was to raise awareness on menstrual health and hygiene while addressing key issues such as irregular periods, heavy bleeding, amenorrhoea, and PCOS. The session also highlighted the prevention of cervical cancer through HPV vaccination, a critical step in safeguarding women’s health.

The doctors explained the causes, symptoms, and risk factors of cervical cancer in detail, while also emphasizing the role of diet, exercise, and timely medical intervention in managing PCOS. Parents were provided with comprehensive information about the HPV vaccine, including its recommended age (9–14 years), safety, number of doses, and long-term protective benefits.

One of the most encouraging aspects of the session was the active participation of parents, who engaged in meaningful discussions, asked questions, and clarified doubts around menstruation, myths, and misconceptions. Their feedback reflected that the session was highly useful, particularly in understanding how to support their daughters in building healthy habits and accessing preventive care.

The facilitators expressed their appreciation for the openness of the participants and reiterated that awareness is the first step toward protection. The collective effort to create safe spaces for dialogue made the session not just informative, but also motivating and empowering for everyone involved.
