According to our community workers on the ground, a lot of people in the slums do not wear masks when they step out and there are a lot of myths regarding Covid-19 (such as vaccination causes deaths) that had to be corrected.
With 65 million people in India are packed into tiny low-income tenements and tin-roofed shanties in squalid urban slums, social distancing is a distant reality.
For many, basic water, sanitation and hygiene facilities remain out of reach, further aggravating the situation.
Public health experts warn that these areas could be hot spots for the infection.
As a result, we are in the process of launching a mass education and awareness campaign highlighting Covid-19 safety protocols and the importance of vaccination. Educational material will be shared both digitally and in print.The printed booklets are in Hindi, Urdu and Bengali.
