Ek Tara Learning Center

The Ek Tara Learning Center was launched in 2021 to house all of Ek Tara’s Education and Child Development programmes. When possible in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions, the Learning Center was operational in a staggered manner to accommodate 950 students to ensure that all children continued to have access to high quality learning resources. Since April 2022, this 18,000 square foot facility has been used full-time to run academic, co-curricular and parent engagement activities for close to 1500 children. The Center is spread across three floors and an open terrace. It has 22 large classrooms, an integrated Science and Math (STEM) lab, an art room, a music room, a library, a multipurpose hall, an indoor game room, and a sick room.

The center reaches 225 children aged three to six years. Its aim is to develop a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy and other development indices for young girls – supporting the overall development of the child so they are ready for primary school.

Primary School

The primary school encompasses classes 1-4. Together with the middle school, it reaches over 600 students. Apart from regular classes our children partake in various co-curricular activities.

This project reaches out to 220 children from Grade V to VIII. In addition to regular subjects weekly classes on SEL (social-emotional learning), STEAM (Science, technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) , Digital Learning and planned Library sessions.

School Support

Over 250 students are part of the school support project. They are enrolled in various schools across the city with our support. Children graduating from our primary and middle school complete their secondary and senior secondary school through our 9 mainstream partner schools.

Health, Hygiene & Nutrition

The aim of this project is to ensure good health and hygiene practices among all Ek Tara children and their families. Nutritious hot meals and snacks daily are cooked and distributed daily to counter the problem of malnutrition and classroom hunger. In addition, children and staff have access to mental health workers, hospitals and doctors when needed. During the Covid-19 pandemic, this project was expanded to offer interim relief to over 10000 individuals and families across the community who were in need of food and medical supplies. At present, the project only focuses on children and women enrolled at Ek Tara.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)

In addition to academic support, we offer a range of co-curricular activities for all our students. Activities for dance, drama, art & craft , swimming are offered as a part of this project. Through the Ek Tara Opportunity Circle (EOC), children who excel in certain activities or would like to pursue additional classes are given specialized skill development opportunities. This is offered in partnership with experts who are reputed trainers and teachers in their respective fields.

Child Welfare and Parental Engagement (CWPE)

In Ek Tara is committed to building capacities of the families we work with. This project ensures the wellbeing of each child is looked after beyond the classroom. This includes home visits, focus group discussions with parents, and the implementation of our Child Protection Policy. Throughout the year, we offer information-sharing workshops and training to parents so that they are able to provide the support their children need to continue in school, prepare for college and prepare to enter the workforce.

Remedial Project

Our remedial project is designed for children who are struggling or unable to cope academically in their classes. We provide after-school support with trained teachers who are equipped to handle remediation in classrooms which have children with mixed abilities and capabilities.
