First Day, First Steps: Welcoming Our L1 Graders at Ek Tara

The classroom felt a little different—a bit softer and quieter at first, filled with wide eyes and the sound of tiny footsteps. It was the very first day for the new L1 graders, and for many, it was their first time ever stepping into a learning space like this.

The final count? Just one tiny tear… and 49 big, beautiful smiles.

A few little ones held onto familiar hands for an extra minute, while others just stood back, taking it all in. But slowly, the room started to warm up. Rhymes turned into giggles, and soon enough, small hands were clapping in rhythm. What started as hesitation quickly turned into laughter and that wonderful, joyful noise kids make when they finally feel at ease.

Through simple play and a lot of gentle reassurance, the classroom started to feel like home. New bags found their hooks, and the first sparks of new friendships began to fly.
